Wairoa July 26th 1866 Sir, I write at the request of "Maihi Kai Moana" and his son 'Aperana' and other natives to lay before you in the first place the proposal of 'Maihi' and his son to sell to the Governmt. a considerable slice of the land on the North Bank of the 'Wairoa' and secondly to express the dissatisfaction of a large section of the natives at the proceedings of 'Taeapa Kawana' and the lessee of some 15000 acres of the N. Bank of the river as sheep run Mr. Davis in surveying the entire block exclusive of portions of acknowledged Hau Hau land and also land belonging to natives unwilling to accede to the scheme of Taeapa and to the lease to Daviss - Of the above named subject I will only add the confirmation of my own knowledge to say that the dissatisfaction does exist, and my opinion has nothing can be so unwise in the case of a young and likely to be thriving settlement for the Govt. to permit the monopoly of so fine a block of land in immediate
