we hold under our Maori Lease. The maintenance of which, was all in all to us, and the chief object we had in view in the purchase of the property, from Mr Atward. I earnestly hope and entreat, that you may be able to find some method by which it may be secured to us, either by treating ours as an exceptional case, or by reserving the sections grant us a lease under the crown upon the same terms we held under Maihe could not Government buy our large building and convert it to public service for which it is admirably suited. At all events we are entirely in your hands and must trust to your kindness and generosity to protect us all in your power. Of course we shall not proceed further in our outlay until we know more what our position really is likely to be. I am happy to say that affairs here, are looking more quiet for the present, thanks to your timely help, and to the energy and determination whown by our Maori allies, under the able leadership of the gallant Kopu.
