Te Wairoa April 25th 1865 My dear Sir, I was much pleased to perceive by your handwriting that you were in improved health. But I was grieved and surprised after what had passed between us at the Wairoa, at the tenor of your letter, and I fear there has been some misunderstanding, which may affect us very seriously - I have put Mr Locke in possession of the facts, and of our clear understanding of the case. The whole issue turns upon our being secured in the possession of the land which we hold under our Maori Lease. The maintenance of which, was all in all to us, and the chief object we had in view in the purchase of the property, from Mr Atward. I earnestly hope and entreat, that you may be able to find some method by which it may be secured to us, either by treating ours as an exceptional case, or by reserving the sections grant us a lease under the crown upon the same terms we held under Maihe could not Government buy our large building and convert it to public service for which it is admirably suited. At all events we are entirely in your hands and must trust to your kindness and generosity to protect us all in your power. Of course we shall not proceed further in our outlay until we know more what our position really is likely to be. I am happy to say that affairs here, are looking more quiet for the present, thanks to your timely help, and to the energy and determination whown by our Maori allies, under the able leadership of the gallant Kopu. Mr.Locke had distinguished himself greatly, which I have specified elsewhere. I remain dear Sir Yours obliged G. Worgan
