Letter from Wm. B. Baker to Donald McLean Esq. dated 8th. March 1858. Auckland 8th, March 1858 My dear Sir, We have been unusually busy since my last to you, paying for land, moving the offices; and what with the Maori laws, there has been no slack of work. Mr. White haying accompanied Mr. Bell, his brother has taken his place. Mr. Fountain has Mr. Dickson's; and young Fred Kempthorne is engaged as an extra. There is one drawback, and very seriously felt too, - neither of them can speak, read or copy Maori.
