12 December 1849 Waitotara, Te Ihupuku To McLean Sir, Greetings to you as you lie there unwell. Sir, I have received your letter. On the 12th of December, I went to Wanganui, so I have just seen your letter to me; the Pakeha named Taitene brought it to me. You asked that I pay for that letter, which I have done, one sixpence. On account of the delay from the storms[?] it lay here and now, since it is calm, a reply to your letter can go to you at once, and this is it. That's all of that. Now, we have not yet met over the business in the letter you wrote of to us - about raising the payments, the payments for the land here. But when the Pakeha arrives, that is, the one you have arranged, then we will all gather in council. Friend, Ma, let the Pakeha worker be a good man and tolerant, not a stubborn man - Taitene is a stubborn one. When the letter in reply to yours comes, then the Pakeha should come here. And then if you send back Kemp and Harry Stephens [?], then when they return it will be done. From your good friend, from Aperahama Tamaipurea
