Moutoa 6 August 1850 Friend, McLean, Greetings to you there. This is what we here are thinking. We are wondering about the lack of reply from you to our letter. This is the second one, and again you may not reply. We are thinking that perhaps you have heard sly talk from someone, and that is the reason that you have not replied to our letter. We have had two meetings and the talk has been only of Patea, to give it all for you only to acquire. We have just [put aside?] some acreage for us, the same for all of us, young and old, 100. We agreed on this, were of one mind, and only you keep us waiting. We did not keep saying to you that you were the man carrying out the work of selling the land. Friend, listen, we have all agreed about Patea, to give it all to you. One other thing, perhaps you hear accusations from someone. Now, another person has no right over what I give to you of my own. If I speak for that [land] of another person, then I am wrong, and if a person speaks for mine, then he is wrong. If Pohe holds on to his, that is all right, leave his alone. We were many, very many at Rangitikei. Now, our good friends, Hori Te Anaua and Te Mawae say that they are happy with their own, with Murimotu, but disagree about mine. If [Hori] accepts the division [?], I won't interfere with his, and so he should not interfere with mine. He perhaps might think erroneously that I am stealing it, but no. However, I will write again to our good friend, to Hori, on the same matter. Another matter we are thinking about is Ngati Raukawa coming here to meet in committee. We say that they are very wrong in their business, but for us if people are selected for the committee, that is all right, but say 300-400-500 or so, that would be wrong. That's all. From your friend, from Wirihana Taorangi
