Memoranda on Disputed Claims in Wairarapa. M. F. Surveyor. 1. Reserve between the Waitangi and Para Streams Amount granted by Deed 100 acres. Amount claimed estimated at 1500 acres. Principal Claimants. Pirika and Ihaka. 2. Werita's Pahana Block. Payment claimed for that portion adjoining Wainuiora River, including Land occupied by Smith (20,000?) Werita Kawakairangi. Hoera Wakataha. Mikaera. 3. Arama Karaka's Block. Estimated contents 3900 Acres - £100 has been paid. Arama Karaka Hemi te Kohea 4. Karauria disputes the sale of a portion of the Tupapokia Block, has taken possession of a portion of Land applied forby S. Stran on the Mangahuia Creek. It seems that Karauria has a claim on this land which should be settled, but according to some natives Ngairo and Maru tunatui claim is doubtful. Piripi Tuapa having offered a large piece of land on Lease, being part of Moore's Run and always considered a portion of the Wharehama Purchases expresses his dissatisfaction with Survey of Reserve at Tupapakurua made by F. Knowles. Ngatune Te Tawhao is anxious to locate the £20 paid him on account) on a piece of land adjoining the Te Whiti block. Manihera te Rangitakaiwaho states that part of his 1000 acres is taken from a Reserve which has been included in it, and therefore that he has not possession of the acreage he is entitled to. The Patoromu claims a piece of land between the Puakimuri and Arohea iti creeks. The Murutuna is anxious that in lieu a piece of Bush inland should be given. The Manihera although he disallows the sale of the Whouhanga Block purchased from te Waka, seemed disposed lately to listen to some arrangement. Karauria Rihia Hape wishes the Reserve settled on the Whawhanui this having been sold to Mr. Barton I was obligated to postpone the Survey he also claims some payment on a portion of Bartons Run Block. A portion of the Oroi Reserve has also been sold to Barton. If there was any understanding with Piripi Tuapa, that certain boundaries were accepted or merely that 500 acres were to be reserved on the Waihora River. Four hundred Acres are claimed by Ihaka at the head of the Paerau this I believe the Natives are entitled to. Ihaka and other natives resident at the head of the valley strongly object to the 2 Reserves of 200 acres each surveyed for them on Otawhiki Te Kepa is very anxious that the purchase of the Wainuiora Block should be completed.
