To find the dates on which the Militia in the several district have been called out, and relieved, will entail a search through all the Books and Records of the Department for each separate place; but in a general way I may state that as far as my memory serves me, the Militia at Auckland, Taranaki, Wanganui and Wellington were called out for actual service in 1860. I am not sure about Napier. They were subsequently relieved until 1863, when they were again called out, and afterwards relieved. Some time since I commenced to keep a Book in which all such matters have been posted up from time to time; and from it, I give the following extracts shewing the places where the Militia are now on ''actual service'', and the dates when called out:- Waikato Oct. 1867, (on disbandment of Military settlers) Taranaki Sept. 1868. Patea Apr. 1867 Wanganui July 1868 Rangitikei Nov. 1868 Manawatu Nov. 1868 Wellington Nov. 1868, relieved Apr. 1869. again called out July 1869 Wairarapa and Castle Point) Oct. 1868 Napier Aug. 1868 released May 1869, and warrants to again call out sent to Lieut. Col. Lambert at same time. Wairoa (H.B) Oct. 1868 Poverty Bay Aug. 1868 Opotiki Sep. 1866 Tauranga Sep. 1866 Waiuku Mar. 1869 Wairoa May 1869. I have no recollection of any Militia being called out under this term since July 1863, when the Auckland Militia were called; but this only lasted a few days when they were called out for ''Actual Service.''
