Published by the Army Education and Welfare Service (AEWS) the New Zealand Army Current Affairs Bulletin, later to be known as the New Zealand Services Current Affairs Bulletin was first published in March 1943 by the Government Printer in Wellington during World War II.
The aim of the publication was to provide service personnel with material on current affairs that could be discussed in groups under the guidance of the platoon officer. These bulletins were compiled from official sources and tended to focus on providing detailed information about one or two key subjects. Subjects usually focused on the history and current political climates of countries involved with the war, but also looked at the impacts the war was having back in New Zealand.
Generally published twice a month, circulation was limited to two copies per platoon, one for the officer conducting the discussion group and one to be shared around the men, due to a shortage of newsprint.
In May 1943 Current Affairs began publishing a separate AEWS Background Bulletin featuring articles from various international publications to provide further background reading to the topics that the bulletin covered, giving personnel a wider background of knowledge to further foster the discussions of current affairs. In January 1944 the AEWS Background Bulletin was renamed Korero.
The New Zealand Services Current Affairs Bulletin published its final issue on 23 July 1945 with the whole bulletin covering The Fall of the Third Reich.
