Unfortunately the sound reproduction was poor and made the music Sound a little flat at times. With the exception of that old | favourite, the “Merry Widow" i waltz, it Would probably have Sounded flat in any case. The old idea of Mendelssohn in writing “Songs Without Words" was no doubt original, but we can hardly admire the modern trend of dispensing with the tune. One or two of the dances were fine, and there was a beautiful foiler skating act. Our verdict. Only a fair show.

Barnes I distinguished himself by winning a door prize. The high spot of the after noun was when the photographers arrived a little L te. Padre Michael filled the breach and gave the crowd selected portions uf his celebrated “Sermon «n Cows”. this j he sang a song in Mish. J t this stage the photographers intervened. Ou 1 — . i>
