150,000 CUT OFF
The Ist and 3rd American armies are fighting on two fronts because of the German pocket in the Ruhr. It is believed that about 150,000 of the enemy are cut off here. Break-out attempts so far have been thwarted.
This region is hilly and is largely built-up and the reduction of the pocket will not be either simple or speedy. In addition to this the enemy have, of course, ample supplies, except petrol,
