ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL:

The Naia Oval was the scene last Wednesday afternoon of a very: interesting and instructive gome of soccer between and team of visiting marines and an eleven from Naia. Unfortunately rain spoilt the game to a certain extent and made the ball heavy and rather difficult to handle. Nevertheless some excellent play was seen and considering. the skill of their opponents, the Naia team put up a good show which result ted in a win for the visitors: 5-1. • Tho Marines showed excellent combination expocially in the forwards and a general masterly control of the ball. ‘What the local team lacked in skill and experience was made . tup- by fitness and a determination tor make some sort of score. For Bty mention must be made of A.Cr&bb and Macindoe (1 goal) for good play in the forwards while D.Crabb, mine hen and Major Luxford wore outstanding 'in the backs. ' Bty l s goalie, Lt. Chapman, had one or . two unfortunate scrambles with the slippery ball which resulted in goads for the visitors. It is hoped to have a return match at some future date. The curtain-raiser game between two teams of Bty personnel - the "Disuniteds" Vs the "Derangers" captained by two chaps whose qualifications need no comment, provided the onlookers with a fast and perhaps the rarest type of . paly yet, seen at Naia. or anywhere else in the soccer world. The last 5 minutes of play was ‘‘all in” - a combination of soccer, rugby, and commando tactics. The final score was 1 nil in favour of the mighty "Derangers" ♦
