There wore three flowers in a garden ©• They were daffodils and were most unhappy in their garden homo and. asked the fairy queen if they . could go abroad and seek happiness in other fields. She lot them go, and the throe, sisters won t wondering all over the world, some times hero, sometimes there© It is a long story, but eventually thoy camo to realise that the place where thoy had .hod most happiness was in the garden whence tlioy camo® and, with tears in their eyes, thoy acknowledged that if thoy could only return to that garden they would never co plain again.
There are many other camp sites in How Caledonia, not wuito so ideal as those enjoyed by the 53rd o Heavy Regiment© Whereas wo have electric light, they have kerosene lamps or candles - whereas wo have flooring, they have gravel,’sand or mud - whereas wo have showers and sea-bathing, they have buckets, and the river, We have comparatively good views from our camps - they have little or nothing to sec. We do see people from time to time, even if wo are unable to talk the language - they see soldiers, soldiers, end still more soldiers® there is one unit which has has to move camp six times in as many months - to gain a better view ?? No’© - to avoid the ravages of flood, the pestilence of mosquitoes, and the groat inconvenience of mud* ",7c have regular movies, oven if wo do not go to them. often® They do not go because they do not have them regular ly©
&rid so, while it is in the nature of the soldier to grumble, and while we admit there are many things to bo desired in our own dumps? lot us realise that we ore more happily placed at "The Ruins f? , and the batteries, than are the majority of the Kiwi Force in Hew Caledonia® Like the daffodils, if -wo moved about a bit a saw things, perhaps we would decide that, after all, our own garden is the best in spite of everything©
