BEAUTY ABROAD.
An inspiration and a joy for. the time being was found by B Red Newman, Tommy Stokes, Alex Bowman and other members of the Sunday beach party who looked wistfully, almost lovingly, at the group of girls disporting themselves in ” slacks n ; but the going was too tough. An effort was made to cut in on French competitors. Language trouble cramped Alex’s style, while shyness kept Tommy skirting around .the flank# It took' Lin Lipanovio.. all he knew to hold y Red " in checkr he was all out for/a blitz As a first effort, the show was most promising. The dances at Bourail should fgive our Romeos* a better opportunity to display their charms to advantage and our French Classes, once we got them going, should level up the competitors# There . doos not appear to be any need fo the Welfare Officer to set up a Committee on this matter; all the Sections are well represented, . What is something of a problem JLs what can be done for the lads -who have not tho sox appeal of cay, Tommy Stokes and Alex Bowman Would a. Committee meet the requirements ? It is thought not. Perhaps the fairest way is to appeal to all the Romeos’ to remember that they will bo taken as representatives of the Engineers. The rest of us will bo judged on the conduct of our spoolalists. ,it is for visiting servicemen to create a prejudice. It is not necessary to conf i one’s attention to beaches and dances, The native population is worthy of respect and an effort should bo made to understand the various mon and woman one moots ( Doko Don R pleaso note ). Because tho natives know nothing of politics, Bity Councils and Hollywood is »no reason why they should be ignored# There is much we can learn from them that may be useful to us when wo return home# It is worth while comparing their way. ' of life with ours and deciding in what way we-are batter, or worse# >" It is not suggested that conversation should bo con--1 fined to politics and, say, Public Works.
