OUR MEETINGS
"Arc we making our meetings a> attractive ami educational as possible ? L)o we prepare the Agenda well ahead ? Whatever else we do, let us not get into a rut in arranging meetings. “Try to obtain a cheery meeting place. Have you noticed how bright and comfortable the lounges at most of the hotels are? The very best methods are used to induce people to come in and drink. They are made attractive and up-to-date. In some of the hotels in Canada large ‘Welcome Cards’ are placed in a conspicuous place with these words: ‘Enter soberly. Drink moderately. Lea\e quietly. Come again.’ .“In a few words I would like to throw out a few suggestions. They may not he new. You may already be carrying them out; but just reminding ourselves occasionally may serve to renew and increase our usefulness and efficiency. "I)o you work for your Unions success? Do you try to gain new members, especially young women ? Do you familiarise yourself with the history and background of the W.C.T.U. so that you can intelligently answer questions ? "Do make it plain in all your announcements that all women will be welcome at the meetings. ‘‘Do have a Literature Table at hand every meeting, some for sale, and some for free attribution. “Do give a personal invitation to the meetings, and give visitors an opportunity to join without pressing them to do so. explaining that the requirements are the signing of the total abstinence pledge and the payment of the subscription. The allocation of the money should he made clear. “Do speak so that you may he heard m any part of the room, and if possible, avoid reading what you have to say. Please do not feel or act apologetically when seeking new members or when inviting speakers or helpers to your meetings.”
