NORTHLAND DISTRICT District Executive, June 8, at Dargaville: District President, Mrs. Green, in the chair, ami led Devotion*. Representatives from the following Unions were present: DarKaville, le hopuru and PukehuiA. A letter Ironi Maungakaraiuea asked for help in making meetings more interesting. the following ideas were suggested: (1) Get as many members as possible to take part by having a Bible text or verse a*> a Roll Call. (J) Newspaper clippings of special temperance interest to be read; arrangements made meeting before. (3) The apjeal of something done with the hands; encourage members to bring their own handwork or work lor Missions. (4) Coin i*titious, say every thiee mouths, in Bowers, cooking or net die work. Considerable discussion on the unenviable loMtion of many aged Jieusioners in Auckland due to the housing shortage, and a suggestion that something should be done to alleviate the position. Mrs. J. Joiner was appointed to represent the W.C.T.U. at a meeting called by the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. J. A. C. Alluni, in connection with the Empire Cancer Campaign Society. Mrs. Mount joy gave the report on the work of the Maori Girls’ Hostel, and also of the annual meeting of th<* National Council of Women. Mrs. V. A. Reed rejiorted on the “Mother’s Day” gathering and stated that she considered it was the best gathering that had \et been held on “Mother’s Day” by the W.C.T.U.

Consideration of ideas whereby younger women and business girls may be induced to take an interest in W.C.T.U. activities. May 27: Home meeting at the home of Miss Gngg. Devotional ]>eriod, choruses, solos by Dr. J. Craig, and recitations by Mrs. Hatton, with social intercourse, ccni|»etitions and afternoon tea combined to make a pleasing programme for which our hostess was heartily thanked. Henderson, May 19: Mrs. Chadwick presided and led Devotions. The Secretary reported on the District Executive meeting. Our s|»eaker, Mrs. Fountain, gave a most informative talk on the work done by the Old Age Pensioners' Association, of which she is a member, to better the conditions of the Pensioners. After the usual business conducted by Mrs. Morgan-Richards, our Evangelistic Superintendent, Miss Cullen gave a lew verses about the lost piece of silver and an interesting little talk on this. Mrs. Wallace read a beautiful letter from a soldier to his mother, which arrived after his death. Mrs. Tremain gave the Temperance Fact. SOUTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT Tauranga, May 4. “Peace Day” observed. Devotions led by Mrs. lie»;?ley. Reports given of N.C.W’. meeting and new delegates elected. Headquarters Fund to be furthered in every way during the year and a good start m.dc through a Donation Card to lay on the table at each meeting for voluntary subscriptions. Extracts read from pamphlet Women and World Peace.” Very g<vxl attendance and one new member initialed. June 1: “W.R” Day observed. “W'.R.'s from Africa, Canada. Hawera: At the April meeting Mrs. Page presided and led Devotions, reading from the “W.R.” Mrs. Hiett’s address in reply to the welcomes given at Convention. Mrs. Iturton led m prayer. A stall with donations lor funds to help the U.N.A.C. realised the sum of £5/15/-, which was paid over, lea Hostesses, Mesdames Page and Burton. Mrs. Pxge closed the meeting with prayer and the Benediction. Donations by friends and members of food and soap at the May meeting were nearly enough to make up another 22 jouml parcel for Britain.
