A PARTING MESSAGE FROM MRS. MACKIE
Lin wood Union held a Social Afternoon to bid their President, Mrs. Mackie, ‘‘God Speed,” ere she leaves, with Mrs! Hugh Kasper, on the long flight to Asburv Park, New Jersey, USA., for the World W’.C.T.U. Convention. Mrs. Mackie writes: — “Mrs. Black asked me to write about our Social Afternoon. It was a very great success both numerically and socially. Ail Unions were represented Many ‘Good Flying and Happy Landuig’ wishes were conveyed to me, and to say the least of it, we all felt there was something which one can’t put into words —something very real and true in those good wishes. “We had a splendid programme. Musical and elocutionary items, and very humorous items given by one of our members, Miss Collins. A play, entitled “Spring Onions” proved most at msing, being given by Mesdames Pashley and Cooper. Mesdames Brown and Faulkner rendered solos very beautifully. Mrs. Middleton gave two elocutionary items. Mrs. Greenwood gave a ’cello solo and again accompanied Mrs. Brown in her beautiful rendering of “A Perfect Day." Mrs. Black pinned a lovely ptnk shoulder spray on my frock, comj>osed of cyclamen, roses, and single chrysanthemums, conveying the sincere good wishes of the Union. A very dainty afternoon tea was served and quite a number of our ladies sjioke of my work as President of the Union very kindly. 1 lie order of the day for the past week has been farewells in the form of dinners, teas, evenings, and the one which impressed me most of all was when two little Band of Hope children came to wish me “God Speed; and please come hack soon to Band of Hope. And, Mrs. Mackie, we are going to pray for you all the time you arc away.” The “Y’s” have also been along. I have proved it is more than worth while to work among the children. I leave Christchurch on Saturday, the 24th, and Auckland on the 27th, arriving at Frisco two days later, and 1 promise to keep you supplied with information each month, and on arrival will cable you. Mrs. Kasj»er will lie plea-cd to send her contribution also. I now wish to say “thank you” to ?JI who have been so very kind. The Christchurch District Executive for their loyal farewell, and my own dear Union for their labour of love. God be with you all till we return. Yours in His service,
ETHEL M MACK lE.
