REPORT With pleasure and satisfaction the Timaru Branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union present the re--I>ort and balance sheet of the Sailor"’ Rest for the year ended November 30th, 1046 In doing so we are very grateful to all who have in any way supported us m this very imi>ortant branch of activities.

Increased shipping lias meant a very marked extra number of seamen visiting the Rest, and we arc much gratified that so many of our own men on the coastal boats are taking advantage of the homelike comforts we offer. Mr. and Mrs. Woodward continue to give sympathetic

attention to all visitors, and letters expressing gratitude and appreciation are constantly coining to hand. We are exceedingly pleased to rejxjrt that the large verandah lias now been glassed in, and to mark the 21st anniversary of the present building and to show many interested friends the amenities of the Rest, a meat successful afternoon was held in May. Representatives from the various women’s organisations were present, and also Messrs. J. I*. 1 . Newman, F. J. Rolleston and G. T. Dawson, who were members of the original building committee. Our many visitors showed their appreciation not only by words of praise, but also by their generous donations. We thank Miss Fyfe for her untiring efforts in making this so successful an occasion. We particularly wish to thank the Tiniaru Spinning Guild tor their generous donation to furnish the sun porch, the Hampstead Red Cross and all the women’s societies who have so kindly supplied us with gifts of food and comforts. We are grateful to Mr. A. C. Martin, our honorary accountant, the Timaru “Herald” for their interesting rei>orts, those local ffrnis that have yearly granted us donations, and the Unions that continue to follow our work for seamen with interest, and forward gifts of comforts and money.
