Dargaville’s report last month inadvertently put under Warkworth.—Editor. AUCKLAND DISTRICT Executive Meeting.—October 7th. I'e District President, Mrs. F. W. Mount joy presided. Miss J. Campbell led Devotions. Mrs. J. W. Long was apixunted District Superintendent ot Maori work, and Sister Jessie of "V” work. A good report of the Hostel work for the 21 ittuth was given by Mrs. Long, who stated that the Hostel was full at present. A letter was to be sent to Mr. Alluin thanking him for the stand he had taken in upholding the law forbidding the showing of tilins on Sundays. Further suggestions with regard to Dominion Convention plans were discussed. Mi'dames Mountjoy and Joiner were aplointed lo lepresent the W.C.T.U. at a meeting called by the Mayoress to consider a proposed Memorial to the late Miss Ellen Melville. A letter was received from the Methodist District Youth Council re our request to have .Scientific Tenqierancc included in the Syllabus for all Youth Camps. SOUTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT Executive Meeting. Held at le Awamutu Dior to District Convention. Five Unions represented, Mrs. Christian presiding. Opening with prayer, the meeting discussed the needs of the district in regard to the visit of Miss Appleby, Dominion Organiser. It \vas

agreed that Unions which had suffered from the w-ar years in various ways and had uot recovered their strength should be visited if arrangements could jtfssibly be made. Otorohauga and Taumarunui were felt to be in need of help. Miss Kiik'k work dumig her stay in the district had been very helpful. It was agreed that Convention be recommended to contribute £5 to Dominion Fund*. It was also to be a recommendation to Convention that the South Auckland District should be divided into a Day of Plenty and a Waikato area. Arrangements regarding Convention were finalised, and Mrs. Gatman closed with prayer. Hamilton, October 3rd: Mrs. G#man presided Mrs. Clark leading Devotions. Mrs. Hurt lejtortfcd on the District Convention. The reading of Isaiah 62, v. 10 by a delegate had struck an impressive note. All business had been of |H'>gressive nature and of high spiritual value. Flowers presented to all District Officers and the Guest of Honour, the Dominion President, Miss ki»k, whose address was inspiring. Delightful solos by Mrs. Wade and elocutionary items by Mrs. Hull.

TARANAKI DISTRICT Hawera Union celebrated “Franchise Day” at their last meeting, taking up collection for N.Z. Fund. Mrs. Page, Acting President in chair, and took Devotions. Mrs. Page made feeling reference to the death of Mrs. Bone, and to her good works, esjiecially in the leml>erance cause. Members stood in silent sympathy with the fajmly. Mrs. Page led in prayer and Mrs. Tozer sang “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Bone was a foundation member of the Union, and Mr. Bone was an honorary member. Several Tenqierance Facts given. Secretary to send letters of sympathy to three sick and sorrowing members. Tea hostesses, MesdTinies Page and Burton. Major Woolford, the Guest speaker, closed the meeting with prayer and Benediction. His address was on Roto Roa Island, and the A*my Home for inebriates. WANGANUI DISTRICT Wanganui Central, October 3rd: Mrs. Goodey presided, and Mrs. Duxheld led Devotiotis. Tea hostesses, Miss Wadsworth and Mrs. Duxheld. Ten present. Letters of sympathy to be sent to members absent through sickness, their own or their husband's. Mrs. Clarke welcomed on her recovery. Carefully prepared financial re]«rt presented. “White Ribbons," “V anguards” and religious papers to be sent to Mr. Tate lor Bay of Plenty Maori work. Pig bundles of good magazines sent to Y.W. and Y.M.C.A.'s Much-appreciated clothing sent to COR SO. Letter from Alliance re questions to Parliamentary candidates read and discussed. Ke|iorts from Dominion Officers and three N.C.W. remits were discussed. The latter were received but felt to be beyond the technical knowledge of numbers. Remits for District C< iveiition were discussed.

HAWKE’S BAY DISTRICT Executive Meeting, September 11th: Ajxjlogics from Gisborne representative, because ol travel restrictions, and from Mrs. Smales, of Waipukurau, because of illness. Delegates irom Dannevirke, Waipawa, Hastings and Napier in attendance. Meeting just about to commence when the District Secretary, Miss Ennor, was called away on account of the passing away of her

brother in Auckland. Members expressed sympathy with the bereaved. Sympathy was also extended to the family of Mrs. Macabster, a dearly beloved pioneer member, and to Mrs. McDonald, of Wairoa, in the death of a son. Kejvoits from Unions *how varied evidence of renewed life and continued interest, and it was felt that m many cases the devastating rri»ort of the Licensing Commission had acted as a stimulant to the careless and apathetic. Plans for the forthcoming Show in October were again discussed. A Marquee and Stand have been secured, and newly-formed Alliance Branches are to be approached for help and co-operation in the setting up of a worth-while Temperance display. Suggestions tor attempting to put new life into Unions were considered and practical steps decided upon. Annual meeting arrangements were discussed and certain features agreed ui*ou. Mrs. Calcott, of Dannevirke, closed the meeting with prayer. Napier Union hostessed visiting delegates for lunchcm and afternoon tea. Napier Union, September 17th: Mrs. Lewis presided over fair attendance. Devotions, Mrs. Oldham. Arrangements made for Blind Folks’ Parties, and Huhurere Girls’ School. Arranged to assist weaker branches to be visited by contribution to District Funds. Mrs. Lewis impressed the need to be equipfx-d with Temperance Tacts and to make them known. Band of Hope commenced with eighteen members on the roll. Ihe afternoon took the form of “Information,” several members giving extracts from the “YV.R.” and “Vanguard.” Prayer in ck>*ing.

MANAWATU DISTRICT Feilding, October 2nd: Mrs. Sjience in the chair. Mrs. Kendall led Devotions from Ist Psalm. Prayer, Mrs. Cummin. Keftort from Dominion Headquarters was read. C.R. Social plans made. Vote of appreciation to our President for her splendid work for the “O. and G.” appeal. Collection taken up for Maori Fund. A delegate apl>ointed for District Convention. Closing prayer by Mrs. Tremaine. Palmerston North, October meeting: Devotions, .Mrs. J. \Y. Buchanan, also solo. Recitations, M iss R. Edwards, who also gave report of work among seamen. Parcels brought for the New Plymouth “Rest,” and some food brought for parcels for Britain, these to be sent away by Mrs. Coles.

WELLINGTON DISTRICT Lower Hutt, September 25th: The Annual S>cial and Reunion of members. The following took part: Mesdames Clarke and Crawford sang solos, and Mrs. Buck gave a very interesting leading from Anne Hepple. A competition was won by Mrs. Bayley. Hostesses were Mesdames Aldersley and Slinn. Ben .'diction. Brooklyn, September 24th: Mrs. Billings, Vice-President, in the chair. Devotions, Mrs. Greenwood. Pledge. Miss Appleby cordially welcomed, also Miss Strong, Central Branch, and all members. Temperance Fact, Mrs. Dudley. District Executive rejtort, Miss Cracknel!. Memorial Day, tribute to deceased members was observed with a Service of Memory. Miss Appleby gave a most interesting and educative address, a vote of thanks being carried by acclamation. Mrs. Gillmgs conveyed greetings from Mesdames Kasjier and Prussing, Auckland, the latter being a past member and for a time secretary of this branch, during her residence in Wellington. BAptist ladies were tea hostesses, serving a very dainty afternoon tea. • NELSON DISTRICT Nelson, September 10th: Mrs. Tooiner presided over a good attendance of members and friends. Mrs. Grigg, President North Canterbury District, was welcomed as Guest speaker, and gave a very interesting talk on the beginnings of T< nqietatice Reform. Mrs. Gr gg spoke of the fearlessness of Temperance leaders in the pa-t, stressing the need for fearless workers to carry* on the present-day fight. Mrs. Grigg was warmly thanked for her address, and presented with a bouquet. Benediction. *
