DISTRICT EXECUTIVE MEETINGS

Northland: Meeting held in the \\ hangarei Methodist Church Hall, June 5. Four branches represented. Ajiologies from Miss hdmed, Cor* res|tonding Secretary, who will be absent for a prolonged period. Mrs. F. T. Moorhead elected to act in her place. Main business was the coming Convention and the Poll. Convention to be in Dargaville in August; sjiecial sjieaker to be Mr. Pace, subject to his approval. Mrs. Roberts re]»ortcd reply from Kaitiara M.P., stating that he hoped there would be no final V Day, and that he hid heard nothing of it yet, for whicn we were thankful. Proposed that this vxtcuiive help with the caravan scheme, and earned. Donations towards delegates’ exjienses received. Samples of literature handed out to all members. South Auckland: Meeting held in Baptist Church Hall, Hamilton, June 28. Devotions led by Mrs. Gatman. Five Unions represented. Convention arrangements made. Date tixed for September 19, Te Awamutu being the place. Principal sjveaker to be Miss Kirk, who had kindly promised to be present. Agreed to recommend the dividing of the district; to form a new "Bay of Plenty” District Union; the present district being unworkable because of distance. Letter of sympathy to be sent to Miss Martin in the death of her mother. Mrs, Gatman reported the forming of a new "Y" branch at the Methodist Maori Hostel, Hamilton. Miss Appleby to be asked to sj>end some time in the district. Financial report showed that assistance would be aeeded from Unions. Mrs. Alexander reported that arrangements were well in hand for Convention. Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Kemsley led in prayer. Special thanks to be expressed to Church officials for the use of a comfortable room.

Hawke’s Bay: Meeting held in Napier, June 12. The president, Mrs. P. Lewis, was in the chair, 18 present, Gisborne, Napier, Watroa, Hastings and Waipawa being represented. Mrs. Virtue led the Reports were given by Mesdames Wallen, Simpson, Gillein, Pitt and Ford. General discussion on plans for the coming election, chiefly the distribution of literature. Members were urged to seek the co-operation of ministers and church members in general, with a view towards united action. Cradle Roll and Band of Hope work discussed. Mrs. Wallen reported that in Gisborne, children from the Cradle Roll are made members of the Rechabite Junior Lodge, and from that will, in the future, be promoted into the Youth Branch of the Lodge. The pamphlet, "Poison at Large,” was esjiecially recommended for dis tribution; and ‘‘The American Liquor Issue" from the “Vanguard” ior distribution to business and professional men. The questions of having a stall at the Hawke’s Bay Spring Show', and of having window displays in the different centres were discussed. Unions were asked to request their Ministers to deal with the liquor question on Temperance Sunday. It was rej»orted that a Hastings traffic officer had stated that in all recent motor accidents in Hastings the drivers had consumed some liquor. It was suggested that where possible assistance should be given to the Alliance for exjwnses. A vote of thanks was passed to the Napier Union for providing lunch and afternoon tea.

North Canterbury: Mrs. F. J. T. Grigg presided at the North Canterbury District Executive meeting in June, at which there was a good attendance of town and country members who reported good work being done in their branches. Mrs. Hodges, Rangiora, took Devotions. Concerts were arranged for the Women’s Reformatory for June and July. Mrs. Clark gave ”Y” rejiort and Mrs. Mackie. rejiorted that she had spoken on "Peace” to several branches during May. Mrs. Ramsay gave a very interesting report on an Alliarce meeting she had attended under the auspices of the National Council of Women, at which Dr. Doris Gordon had sjioken. Branch secretaries gave comprehensive rejiorts of theii branch work.

Mrs. Grigg welcomed Mesdames A. Norton, Campbell, and Owen from the LytteltonHeathcote Union, and thanked them for disI>ensing tea. All members signed a petition, asking Government to ojien private homes for mentally sick jieople. Rejiorts were given by secretaries of Unions.

Auckland: Monthly meeting held in the Teinjierance Room on July 1. The acting District President, Mrs. F. W. Mountjoy, presided over a good attendance. Devotions were led by Mrs. Austin. Arrangements were made for holding the District Convention during September. Mrs. Austin and Miss M. M. McLay were ap{tointed the delegate* to the “Women’s World Day of Prayer.” Miss K. Appleby, Dominion Organiser, gave a rt-jiort of her work, which she had recently carried out in the Palmerston North District; one new Union having been formed at Wfxidville. In the absence of Mrs. liOtig through illness, the rejxirt of the work of the Maori Girls’ Ho tel was given bv Mrs. Prussing, who stated everything to be going on satisfactorily, thirty being in residence at the moment, including the staff. Further suggestions were made regarding Poll work, and it was decided to hold a jumble sale during August to supplement funds for this purjKise, also a garden party later in the year.
