March 14th. Although it was the usual monthly meeting for Onehunga, it was of an unusually interesting character. The usual list of reports, business and plans for the future were attended to. Mention was made of a recent newspaper report of the marriage of a returned soldier when the officiating clergyman was the bride’s grandfather, Canon i\ S. Small field. As most ohk r Christian workers, and those interested in the suppression of the liquor traffic, can remember the many years of service “for God, Home and Humanity” rendered by Mr. Smallfield; much gratitude and satisfaction were expressed that God has so richly blessed him and his wife, and a letter to this effect was to be sent, expressing the wish that they may continue to enjoy good health and that their eventide may be light/

A hearty and sincere welcome was accorded to Dr. Jeannie Craig, who sang two solos, afterwards giving an interesting and instructive address. She mentioned various aspects of the Invercargill Trust Control; also explaining Australia’s effort to start “Model Hotels,” thereby making drinking attractive and respectable. The meeting closed in the usual way.

CAMBRIDGE CRADLE ROLL PARTY On March 28th the usual monthly meeting of the Cambridge Union took place, devotions being led by Mrs. Weston, who also gave a talk on “Pioneer Women.” After a short business meeting, the Cradle Roll Superintendent took charge, and a large number of children and parents had a happy time. Mrs. Weston made an appeal for new members. Being a lovely, sunny day, games were played

on the lawn, where afternoon tea was served for adults and ice cream for the children, who all wore paper hats. Afterwards the children entertained in the hall with songs, recitations and a pianoforte solo. Four little girls sang two songs in Maori unaccompanied. Mrs. Kcmsley, President, farewellcd Mrs. Weston, who is leaving the district. Meeting closed with the Benediction.

AUCKLAND DISTRICT EXECUTIVE The Auckland District Executive held a welcome afternoon at the Maori Girls’ Hostel, Parnell, on Friday, March 29th, to extend a welcome to Dr. Jeannie Craig, who was at one time an officer in the Auckland District Executive; and now’, after an absence of twelve years in Australia, had again returned to Auckland.

The District President, Mrs. I. W. Long, presided, and extended a warm welcome to Dr. Craig; and several other ladies voiced their pleasure at her return to Auckland. Dr. Craig suitably replied, and also sang for us, Mrs. Wanhill also contributing a solo. The meeting closed with devotions led l)v Mrs. V. A. Read.

NELSON "Eight Year Olds’ Party" A party for the eight-year-olds was arranged by the Cradle Roll Superintendent, Mrs. Neal. Owing to heavy rain, the attendance was small, but those present enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea, and were entertained by films shown by the Rev. Mr. Blampied, who also gave a short talk on “His Master’s Voice.” Mrs. Toomer thanktd Mr. Blampied, and choruses were sung, after which the children’s certificates were given out.

R.K.O. PICTURES, INC. Interesting Letter Received The following v.as received by the Nelson Union in reply to a protest sent in regard to the portrayal in films of scenes of the use of alcohol as a beverage. It is well worth reading, and Nelson is to be congratulated on their

We are in receipt of your letter of October 15th, relative to the W.C.T.I . impression as to die undue picturisation of the use of alcoholic beverages in motion pictures. Your letter comes as a surprise inasmuch as it long has been the intention, not only of our studio, but of all producers, to minimise, as far as possible, excesses in drinking.

W hile, of course, we do not presume to know how complete a cross-section of pictures upon which you base yo. ~ conclusion, we do feel that, owing to the eltort made in this direction, vvi make a better showing, by and large, than is indicated in your report. However, your letter has been received with respect; and you may he sute that it will tend to keep us all more alert to the necessity of adhering closely ta our established policy in regard to this subject.
