Mark Cohen for always so ably championing the cause of Womanhood, was carried with warm applause. In the evening, a public meeting was held in the Town Hall. The Mayor, Mr T. Anderson, welcomed the delegates to Port Chalmers, and expressed the hope thc.t we would have a profitable Convention. Songs by Misses Sharpe, Somerville, Docherty, and Mrs Morgan; recitations by Mesdames Purdie and Heath, and a violin solo were much enjoyed. Mr T. W. Todd (representing the New Zealand Alliance> gave an interesting address on the progress of the Prohibition Movement in New Zealand and throughout th* world. The following resolution was carried: ‘‘That, in view of the little support that is accorded the State Purchase and Control issue on the ballot paper, this meeting is of the opinion that it should be removed from the ballot paper, and a straight-out issue, wet or dry, be given to the people; the meeting also emphatically protests against the extension of time being made in the licensing poll.” Votes of thanks were accorded to those who had contributed items, and to Mr Todd for his address. Convention closed with the Benediction.
