SWISS WHITE RIBBONERS.
The W.C.T.IT. in Switzerland is in two sections the derman-speaking and the French speaking. The Germanspeaking- branch is doing very tine educational work, also a wonderful practical work in the fight against alcohol. Thirty years ago the first temperance refreshment house in Europe was founded at Zurich by Mrs Orelli, woo Is now nearly SO years old. Now there . 13 lug houses, as well n« a larg- ..ufnoer of private temperance houses. They provide wholesome food and tcmpcianco drinks at moderate prices, served in clean and comfortable premises; also
football matches and sporting events are supplied with temperance drinks. The staffs are well salaried, and no “tips” are allowed. There are 500 girls and women working in these houses. At first it wars supported by voluntary contributions, hut now they are self-supporting. The annual turnover is over four million franc**. The number of daily visitors is more than ten thousand. All profits are reserved for carrying on the work and for new foiindut ions. Temperance canteens in factories have been created by another Swiss White RiMtoner. There are now 43 of these.
