For the fust time we show a debit balance on our year’s work. During the last two years ue have paid /joo extra for the production of the paper. That without raising our price, keeping up the style and attractiveness of OUI paper, we have, only a debit of £ B> i s 2d, speaks vobjmes for the devotion a id loyalty o* >ur Cnions. During 1 <> 17 the Cnion, secured over 400 new subscriber*. Inuring iyiß, though the cost of piloting vas further luised, th * Cnions only secured 335 new subscribers. This was aoubtless owing to the heavy work with petition and < ur other activities, taking the cue g* and time cf workeis, and so ihe pr.p'i has not been so loyally supported as before. igiK closed with 2943 t-üb-scribers on the books. Mrs Ccvie, Misses W eymouth and Powell did good service to our paper, ami our thanks are due to them. Dunedin .ecured most new subscribers, 22; Palmerston North, 20; Ashburton, ic ; Invercargill South, 12; Christchurch, 11; Kden, 10. No other Union got over nine .lew subscribers. Sixteen Cnions sent only one new subscriber for ihe year, and 20 Unions, one o', them being a District Cnion, did not gain on*- new subscriber for the whole of 1 ( 1 v \u< kland In ided the lilt t"i the Y’s with eight new' siibs< ribers. Several Unions, notably I.eigh and \shbunon, have a fair proportion vi non-members among tbeir subscribers, and we would urge ether Unions 10 secure non members as subscribe rs, and so interest them in the work and induce them to become metalier*' Our thanks are due to Mrs Fvans, our Associate Editor, and tv Mi Lynneberg, our Auditor \\V* also
