Nelson. —Monthly meetings; 100 members; a concert, at which “Ten Temperance Talks” were given; one social. New Brighton.—United Band of Hope; nearlv all White Ribboners on Committee; bright, helpful programmes given. Kaiapoi.- United Band of Hope, managed by W.C.T.U.; 7 .meetings ; average attendance, 300 children and adults; 171 members; si prizes given; double marks given for temperance items. A choir of 30 girls trained. Exchange of programmes given by Rangiora and Kaiapoi Bands of Hope. 100 free copies of “Defeat or Victory?” distributed. Receipts £ 26. Contributed to the “Red Cross.” the “Outlook Fighting.” and “Maori Organising” Funds, also to the fund for
providing electric light for the W.C.T.U. rooms. Ashburton.—'W.C.T.U., assisted by “Y’s”; 61 members; addresses given; one social; prizes given for various competitions. Kakaia. —16 meetings; 65 members; one public meeting, proceeds sent to Y.M.C.A. Coffee Fund for ssldiers. North-East Valley.—Two Hands of Hope; 115 members; 36 new members; W.C.T.U. gives prizes for essays. Birkenhead and Avond.de each have an L.T.L. Tinwald and W inohmorc-Greenstreet each have Bands of Hope, but have sent no particulars. Hand-book regarding the forming of Bands of Mercy in connection with L.T.L.’s. A number of packets of Mercv leaflets were sold at the Dominion Convention, but no reports have been received.
