Annual meeting. Reported that 12s had been collected for prizes for Temperance essays, and 13s (>d for Lady Liverpool Fund. Officers elected: Pres., Mrs Hall; Sec., Mrs Smith, 344. Wainoni Road, Christi hureh; lreas., Airs Nicholas. Decided to resume our meetings on thiid Thursday in March. NAPIFR. Dec. 13. Annual meeting held in Willard Hall. Officers elected : Pres., Mrs Venables; Sec., Mrs Chellew ; lreas., Mrs Clare; “W.R.” Agent, Mrs Mens; Home Meetings, Mrs Jenkins; Flower Mission and Cradle Roll, Mrs Walker; Kvangelistic, Mrs Dodds. Mrs Chellew elected delegate to Convention. Following resolution passed, and Secretary to forward to Miss Henderson: “The Na pier l ition desire to pine on record its appreciation of what lias been done by the N.Z. Executive to get women police appointed, and trust
that they will continue the advocacy of this much-needed reform until the Government of New Zealand grant the request. OPOTIKI. Dec. 14. Annual meeting, 40 present. Officers elected: Pres., Mrs Goodall; Sec., Miss I). Monce; Cradle Roll, Aliss Lihtield; “White Ribbon,” Mrs Francis. All other officers were re-elected. Miss Powell paid us a visit, which was very profitable. Special meeting held for young girls. Miss Powell gave a talk to members on the origin and work of the W.C.T.C. We were msp;red by Miss Powell’s visit, and say, “Come again soon.” Balance-sheet showed £145 r.'iDed for patriotic purposes. Balance in hand, AUCKLAND. Dec. 13. Annual meeting, Mrs Cook presiding. On the invitation of the Mayor, the President and Treasurer wer** appointed to represent the Union at a public meeting of women to consider social conditions in the city. Miss Weymouth appointed Organiser for Auckland Union for three months. Reports and balancesheet were read and adopted. £53 ns $d had been cleared by a sale of gifts. Officers were elected: Pres., Airs Cook; Vice-Pres., Mesdames Thorpe, Garroway, and Mason; Uor. Sec., Aliss N. Dewar; Rec. Sec., Mrs J. W. Taylor; lreas., Miss Dewar. Hospitality Committee formed to arrange homes for delegates to Convention. Mrs Whitehouse was appointed to watch for strangers, and give them awe lcome to the meetings. A letter of thanks and donation was given to the Central Mission for use* of hal during the year. FITZROY. Dec. 5. Annual meeting. Attendance good, Mrs Douglas pre*si<iing. Reports were read and adopted. A Patriotic Sewing Guild, organised since June, had forwarded 123 garments to the Mayoress. Mrs Kibby, “White Ribbon” Agent, had secured several new members. Officers for next year: Pres., Mrs Douglas; Sec. and “W.R.” Reporter, Mrs Scott; Treas., Mrs Tolme. Decided to hold meetings first Tuesday in the month. NELSON Y’s. Dec. 8. Annual meeting. Secretary’s report gave 65 members on the roll. Chief feature of the year’s work has been the commencement of the 1..T.L., which has <>B members, and is controlled by the Y’s. Treasurer’s report gave credit balance of 1 os NJd. Decided to send a delegate to Convention. Officers for next year: Pres., Miss Haves; Vice-Pres., Misses Sutherland and Shone; Sec., Miss Knapp; \sst. Sec ~ Miss thing; lreas.. Miss Phillips; Asst. Treas.. Miss McCone hie; Press Reporter, Miss Kenning; L.T.L. Supt., Miss Sutherland.
TAURANtiA. Th s Branch has been reorganised by Miss Powell, and now numbers 33, largely due* to Miss Powell’s efforts. Decided to send to the* Organising Fund. Officers were elected: Pres., Mrs F. N. Christian; Vice-Pres., Mesdames Christian, Ryan, Neal, Petchell; Cor. Sec., Airs Turner; Rec. Ser., Mrs Hammond; lreas., Airs Chappell; “White Ribbon,” Airs Pete hell; Cradle Roll, Airs Ridley; L.T.L., Airs Turner. Decided to elect two visitors eac h quarter. NGAF.RF. Jan. 2. A well-attended meeting. Reported that priz s had been presented to school ehddren for temperance essays; that a large parcel of literature sent to Trentham Camp. Arranged to hold a Cradle Roll picnic, and also to join with othe r Unions in a Frances Willard Day picnic. The suggested grouping of departments, published in “White Ribbon/’ was read, and the* following resolution passed “With a v.ew to the saving of time* and expense, and to the prevention of overlapping of work, we the members of the Ngaere W.C.T.U. heartily approve of the* above suggestion.” TIN WALD. Dec. 7. Social afternoon for the purpose of presenting the* prizes won by the school children in the recent temperance essay competition. The President was 111 the* chair, and Mrs Watson (District President) and Airs Lill (District Treasurer) were on the platform, and gave short addresses. Afternoon tea was handed round. The pri/c*s, numbering fifteen, were donated by the Tinwald W.C.T.U., Messrs Ferriman. of Ashburton, and Clark, of Tinwald. They were presented by the President. The National Anthem closed a pleasant afternoon. CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 13. Annual meeting. Mrs McCombs presided. Good attendance. The annual report was read and adopted. Reports were also received from New Brighton and TTyttelton Unions. As a result of the members’ work, a large* number of garments have been made and forwarded to the Red Cross and Lady Liverpool Societies. A lecture given bv Airs Mickle in aid of the Red Cross and Lad} Liverpool Funds realised Airs Weston, one of our senior members, sold practically all the* tickets by personal canvassing. The Union also took an active part in <) o’clor k closing campaign. The Union’s luncheon booth at the* Agricultural Show was a great success. The following officers were elected: - Pres., Mis McCombs; (or. Sec., Mrs Day; Rec. Sec., Mrs K. I). Martin; l reas., Airs Patterson. Mrs Williams elected “W.R.” Superintendent.
