The White Ribbon. For God and Home and Humanity. WELLINGTON, JANUARY 18, 1916. OURSELVES.

(Will all Unions piease read this article at their next meeting?) In pressing its own claims, the “White Ribbon” i> almost as modest as the little violet, but just now we wish to make a special appeal to our Unions to help us by increasing our circulation, ?nd so increasing our usefulness. Everybody is so eager to read the pews about the war that they require

no pressing to buy a daily paper, but folks are not so eager to hear and know all about temperance and social reform, and so papers dealing with these subjects are not so much sought after. Now our Unions can all help us by bringing the paper under the notice of their friends. First, they should appoint a “W.R.” Agent and Reporter. Every Union should have one, but don’t leave all the work to her. Several Unions who early in the* y**ar sec ured new subscribers lost their Agent, and not a new subscriber has been sent in since, showing clearly that the work was left to one person to do. One Union pays for a dozen papers per month, and th« ir faithful Agent sends them out each month to persons she* thinks will become interested in our work. Needless to say, this Union has a larger number of subscribers than any other in the Dominion. Some Unions do not look for sub scribers outside Union meiubt rs. 1 his is a mistake, as the paper tells so much of our work that it often gains members for the Union. One Union reports 53 members, but has 74 “White Ribbon” subscribers, all paid up to date. The Convention number, containing our President’s address and all reports of work done throng in ut the year, is spec lally suited lor distribution, and we ask every Union to circulate this year’s Convention number widely. Don’t take only as many copies as you can sell, but take as many as you can afford, and give them away to those whom you wish to interest in the work of the W'.C.T.U. We appeal to our Unions to spend some of the money they devote to literature upon Convention numbers, and thus make our own special work known. Will every Union order some copies? They are only 3s per dozen. Send your order direct to the Business Manager, or by your delegate to Convention. Auckland Union buys and distributes six dozen copies of Convention number. Cannot other large Unions do as well, and the smaller Unions in proportion? Let there be no defaulters this year. Surely every Union tan spare at least 3s once a year for free distribution of “White Ribbon” Convention number.

THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE N.Z. W.C.T.U. to be held In St. Paul’s Hail, Street, Wanganui, Marcn 15 10 2i, 1916.
