FILM CENSORSHIP CONFERENCE.
At the invitation of the N.Z. Catholic Federation, a very representative conference met in Wellington. Five Education Boards sent delegates, and four other Boards were in sympathy, but unable to send delegates. Six Educational Institutes were represented, and three more were in sympathy. 2 5 local bodies sent representatives, and 24 others expressed sympathy; while ten societies interested in moral reform sent delegates. Councillor Frost, representing the* Mayor of Wellington, presided. Ihe following was earned unanimously:— “That this Conference of Local Government Bodies, Educational Authorities, and Organ sations concerned with the social wolf re of the* people of this Dominion, whilst fully appre dating the useful and educational value of the* cinenv iograph, is of opinion that the class ol moving pictures at present exhibited in New Zealand constitutes a gr. vo danger to the moral health and so. i d welfare of the community, and aftiims the* necessity for a stric t suj ervlsion, by tin* Government, of all films exhibited to the public in the picture theatres of this Dominion, and requests that an officer or board be appointed, whose duty it shall be to insp * t all films before they are allowed to bo exhibited, and that every film so licensed shall bear a certificate signed to that effect; and further, that a list of all films declared to be unsuitable be published weekly in the Police Gazette, and that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Minister for Internal Affairs, with a request that legislation be introduc ed to give effect to the same at the earliest possible opportunity.”
