raewyn dalziel is Associate Professor of History, University of Auckland. Her most recendy published work was Julius Vogel: Business Politician (Auckland, 1986). k.r. howe is Reader in History at Massey University. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Committee for the Record. Currently working on a life of Edward Tregear.
peter hughes was formerly Curator of Archives and Manuscripts, Alexander Turnbull Library. He is now New Zealand and Pacific Librarian, University of Auckland. maureen lander works in the audio-visual unit, Department of Anthropology, University of Auckland. A further essay on her work on Charles Heaphy will appear in a forthcoming Antic. e. p. malone is the grandson of Lt Col W. G. Malone. He was one of the editors of The Great Adventure: New Zealand Soldiers Describe the First World War (Wellington, 1988).
