NICOLA M. frean, ma (HONS), dip libr, is an archivist at National Archives, Wellington. This article grew out of work for a Diploma in Librarianship course in 1984.
SHARON DELL, BA (HONS), DIP NZLS, is Maori Materials Subject Specialist at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
m. A. r. graves, ma (HONS), phd, is an associate professor of History at the University of Auckland and author of several books on Tudor England, including The House of Lords in the Parliaments of Edward VI and Mary I. His latest volume, The Tudor Parliaments, will be published in November 1985. Currently he is preparing for the press a collection of documents with commentary on the Elizabethan parliaments.
