Centennial Celebrations People came far and near for the 100th anniversary of Tokanga-nui-a-noho, the carved house at Te Kuiti, when centennial celebrations were held there over Labour Weekend last October. Local people had worked for months re-painting the famous house, built by Te Kooti as a mark of his thanks to the people of Maniapoto for their help in sheltering him when he fled from his pursuers.
