If you are 17 to 23 years consider a career as a Naval Officer A career as an Officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy is more than a mere job—it is a way of life with great traditions and a secure future—an opportunity to see the world more closely than most, to enjoy social contacts more freely than most. A successful officer as a holder of Her Majesty's Commission, has the respect of the community in which he lives. He is at once a highly trained professional, a leader, an efficient manager of skilled men and an administrator. Each year the Royal New Zealand Navy selects a limited number of young men for short service commissions. Qualifications: Short service cadets are 17 to 23 years and must have School Certificate with a pass in mathematics. Training: Cadets train for a year at H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki, followed by further sea training with the fleet. Prospects: You join initially for 8 years, and if you wish to make the Navy your lifetime career and meet the standards, you will be given the opportunity to extend your engagement.
