‘The Land of the Long White Cloud’ Columbia 33MS 7565. 10. 33 £1/3 LP This disc features eight songs of New Zealand sung by Doug King (Ko Latene) with Dick Carr and his Drifters. For example there are such well-known favourites as ‘Ah-e-re-mai’ which proved to be Sam Freedman's ‘Haere mai, everything is kapai’ (the disc describes it as trad. arr. Freeman) and ‘Ah-e-re-ra’ which is heaven knows what. Nice try, Doug, but come out and visit us sometime and you might learn a few things. However, I must give this disc its due. If you enjoy rhythmical and very competently played Hawaiian style music and you don't mind excruciating Maori pronunciation then you will enjoy this excursion to the Land of the Long White Cloud. For me? Oh brother!
