Big Day Out '96
This summer the Big Day Out gets bigger and better. The major foreign acts for this January's one-day concert are Rage Against The Machine, Jesus Lizard and Porno For Pyros from the USA, and from Europe there's Elastica, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. From across the Tasman come Regurgitator, Tumbleweed and TISM. The day of the big gig is Friday January 19 and the location is Mt Smart Stadium, now known to rugby league fans as the Ericsson Stadium. The international acts will play the Auckland show en route to the Australian concerts. The New Zealand acts playing the Big Day Out will be announced in December.
k.d. Lang visits Auckland for two days of media interviews and promotion for her new album All You Can Eat on November 20 & 21. k.d. Lang's listening of late has included Elastica, Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, PJ Harvey and Bjork. "I wanted to do something more pop," says Lang, "It was an intentional move away from the traditional aspects of Ingenue"
A new day and a new look as Madonna seeks to sell her ballads collection Something to Remember featuring cool oldies and new tracks such as Marvin Gaye's 'I Want You', a romantic David Foster collaboration and movie soundtrack songs 'This Used to be My Playground' (A League of their Own) and 'l'll Remember' (With Honors). Other tracks include 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore', 'Oh Father', 'Crazy For You' and 'Live To Tell'.
Keanu Reeves, as Star Sirius, brings his band Dogstar to Auckland to open for Bon Jovi Wednesday November 8. The actor plays bass and sings his own compositions. The band has gained good reviews in Los Angeles and on a Japanese tour. Covers include the Jam's 'This Is The Modern World'.
