taking of business

MCA’s Jorgen Larsen Opens NZ OfficeThe London-based President of MCA International, Jorgan Larsen, visited NZ for the opening of the NZ office. He has overseen the move by MCA from four MCA international. companies to 28 companies by January 1996, all in 24 . months. Larsen considers New Zealand, “A very interesting country with very broad interests from black music to country music. BMG has done a good job for us but we have seen in all countries we open in, we can increase our market share." Larsen showed a very "European" understanding of international borders in his perception of NZ and Australia as entirely different markets. "The musical preferences are as different as Germany and the UK. It’s a three hour plane flight! Could Greece be a province of Norway?" On local repertoire Larsen said, “It depends on the individuals in the company. We have signed artists in seven of the 10 companies we started in Europe last year. But if there’s too much fascination and competition for scarce local talent you can piss away the money you earn on your international repertoire." • Bay of Plenty Music Awards Winners '
