garage
HEAD LIKE A HOLE Shitnoise : : Garage? The garage that contains these monsters is one I'd dearly like to see "cause it would have to be one hardass mother, an utter hell garage, the sort of garage that would happily chew up sad little student acts trying to master the Velvets chord progressions but would spit Head Like A Hole out into an unsuspecting world. These Wellingtonians have energy in bucketloads and the best bad attitude I've had the pleasure of hearing in a long while. They're sort of thrash metal except for the bits that are punky and the bits that are funky industrial but don't worry cause when you hear it the whole deal makes more sense than me. ‘Head of Ignorance’and ‘Life’s a Joke’ show the boys probably know what a rap tune is but have no manners and a serious interest in overloading their guitar amps - while ‘Never Mind Today’ and ‘Air’ are heavy metal nightmares. They get points off for using such an obvious name and making the tape far too short, but the press kit's nice and this rates up with Second Child and the Nixons as the best local effort I've heard all year. Write to them at P.O. Box 11-297, Wgtn and find -out how good this is for yo'self loser. KIRK GEE : THE FEAR Self-titled Cassette Apparently the Fear were once a punk band but | can’t see how on the basis of this tape. Four songs in which an early 80s synth sound dips in and out like a low flying plane. The question is, why have old punks started listening to Simple Minds, the Cure and OMD at this point in history2 The result is competent but retrogressive pop rock in search of a stadium. Available from Ponsonby Takeaways () or by sending $8 to VOK Tapes, 11A Tole Street, Ponsonby.
