New bands continue to spring forth in abundance — Perfect Strangers, Flows End, Scatteract, Hiding from Stan and the Verve all appearing in the last month ... Steve Entwhistle has left World’s Apart and is looking at other projects; Jodie Bell has taken his place and ex-Minit Man vocalist Ken Bowden has also joined the band ... silly names of the month contest much be a draw between Tales of the Unexpected Worlds Apart Orchestral Challenge, which is a one-off event with Worlds Apart and friends, and ColCONTINUED ON PAGE 10
With outfits like that, these two could only be going to the “Orgasmic Fantasia,” the Asylum’s fancy dress Christmas party on December 18. The theme is (move over, new-psychedeiia) glam rock, and besides the fashions — several Auckland designers will provide the costumes — that extends to the music. Performing the flashy standards (from Hendrix’s ‘Hey Joe’ to the Osmonds’ ‘Crazy Horses’) will be several wellknown but anonymous musicians — but we can tell you they’re current and former members of the Dance Exponents, Screaming Mee Mees, Diehards and Sons of Jeopardy. There are prizes for the best costumes, bring your cardboard guitar... the mascara starts running at 8 pm.
