ROCK AMRO
With production standards being the usual excuse for New Zealand music not receiving radio airplay, the announcement of a $30,000 award towards the recording of an album is good news for local musicians. The Rheineck rock music award is intended by the sponsors New Zealand Breweries to be an on-going commitment to encourage original New Zealand music. The award will be made in December after the winning applicant has been selected by the advisory board consisting of Karyn Hay, journalist Colin Hogg and promoter Doug Hood. Speaking for the advisory board, Hogg said the aim of the award is to give wide recognition and support to original New Zealand music. Within two weeks of it being announced, well over 100 bands had applied for the award. Applications close in mid-November; the application form can be obtained by writing to the Rheineck Rock Award, P O Box 5779, Wellesley Street, Auckland.
