The Australasian Academy of Broadcast Arts and Sciences announces the 1985 ESSO PAN-PACIFIC A SONG AWARDS A A i V FOR SONGWRITERS & PERFORMERS (a division of the radio industry’s annual l Australasian Broadcasting Awards, k the PATERS) Australia and New Zealand’s official national and international song awards and the most prestigious songwriting and performance awards in the southern hemisphere! 52 awards covering all styles of music in 32 categories divided into PROFESSIONAL and AMATEUR sections for: (a) songwriters (b) new performers with the prestigious PATER trophies and prizes, sponsored by ESSO AUSTRALIA, through the Academy, with ANSETT AIRLINES, Pilkington ACI and other corporate sponsors. Last year the PATERS were presented at the Hilton International Hotel, Sydney, during a glittering gala evening networked on radio and covered by four television channels. The PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA, HON. R. J. L. HAWKE, presented the main awards, including ‘Song of the Year’, and other distinguished presenters included: PREMIER OF NSW, Hon. N. Wran; Leader of the Australian Democrats, Senator Don Chipp; the High Commissioner for New Zealand; the Director of the Hong Kong Tourist Commission; Donnie Sutherland of “Sounds”, Seven Network; actress Rowena Wallace; and members of the Academy, including: Ita Buttrose, Bobby Limb, Rod McLennan (both of ‘New Faces’, Nine Network), John Laws, Mike Gudinski, Managing Director Mushroom Records, Simon Townsend of ‘Wonder World’, Mark Day (‘Day by Day’, Channel Seven and 3AW), plus station managers and programme directors, John McCready, Radio Hauraki, Auckland, Jeremy Cordeaux, SDN Adelaide, Cherie Romaro, 2DAY Sydney, Graham Smith, 3FOX Melbourne, Cheri Gardiner, 6PR Perth, and others. Other boardmembers this year include Mike Willesee, Gavin Wood (3EON), John Williams (4BC), etc. m&m r' > Lj Y I > PRESIDENT OF THE 1985 PATERS is PHILLIP ADAMS, member of the Academy, and also chairman Australian Film Commission. The 1985 Presentations will be on Saturday, 26 October, at the Melbourne Southern Cross’ new grand ballroom .. WINNERS will be flown return to Melbourne and . accommodated as guests of the Academy courtesy ANSETT, and will receive their awards and prizes in the , presence of radio, television and show business celebrities from around Australia, New Zealand, S.E. Asian and Pacific countries.
