DESPITE repeated warnings from her grandfather, Toni managed often to be in Ferdinand’s company. She invaded his office on one pretext or another, and he soon came to find delight in the gay chatter of the pretty, fittle gamin. Soon it became clear that her interest in the handsome Ferdinand was a serious matter to her.
