VIENNA MOZART BOYS' CHOIR HERE IN APRIL

As the ‘‘Record’’ exélusively announced the other week, the Vienna Mozart Boys’ Choir is coming to New Zealand next year. Dates are now being arranged, announced the manager, Mr. D. D. O’Connor, and the season will begin at the Auckland Town Hall on April 14, and continue at the Wellington Town Halli on April 26.

OR more than five hundred years the boys’ choirs of Vienna have been the pride of the eultured and music-loving Austrian people. They have maintained a tradition of polyphonic singing unsurpassed anywhere in the. world, and have been a great factor in establishing the fame of Vienna as the musical capital of Europe. AS Viennese choirboys, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Richter and many other famous musicians received weir training and earliest inspiration. . The soloists of the present choir had the honour of being engaged by the renowned conductor, Arturo Toscanini, to present works by Mozart at the 1937 Salzburg Festival under his baton and have been reengaged for next year. The Mozart Boys’ Choir has recently been delighting enormous audiences in London, New York and other capitals under the direction of D. D. O’Connor. Comprising twenty sopranos and altos from BY

the Mariahilf Basilica Choir in Vienna, a 300-year-old institution noted for its association with Josef Haydn, this choir will present. programmes of operettas in costume, sacred and secular works by the great Viennese composers from Mozart to Johann Strauss, and folk songs of all countries. The conductor will be the eminent musician, Dr. Georg Gruber, who has _ specially trained the boys for their foreign tour.
