33 Club Entertains At Luncheon
THE 83 Club of Wellington and the 44 Club of Auckland are practically unique organisations, | according to R. lL. Grant, former general manager of British Empire Films in New Zealand, who has just returned from a six months’ trip abroad. He said he had travelled in practically every country in the world where film business means anything, but nowhere, except Australia, was there anything quite like them. Waren he had told overseas film men about the clubs they had been enthusiastic to organise something similar. Mr. Grant gave this information to 33 Club members at a luncheon at which he was one of the guests of honour. The other guest of honour was Bert Bailey, the "Dad" of the "Dad and Dave" films-and "Dad" practically stopped all the normal functions of the Hotel Si. George dining-room with his flow of remiziscences and amusing anecdote. Speaking of the difficulties of the old touring theatrical companies in the Australian backblocks, "Dad" brought his house down by saying that "the only man who got money out of the bush of Australia was Ned Kelly, and the secret had died with him."
