PLANS FOR NATIONAL CENTRE © : JLONG AWAITED > announcement of Director’ Shelley’s New Zealand Conservatorium. -plans’ was made by the -Acting-Minister of Broadcasting, thé Hon. F. ‘Jones, last week. Provision is to ‘be made’ in’ ‘the new headquarters of the. NBS to be erected behind the Parliamentary Buildings, Wellington, for the gradual development of a conservatorium of music and for the future installation of a shortwave station and television equipment. Plans approved by-Cabinet for the new broadcasting centre allow for a building of several stories. Architects are now preparing the’ final plans and working drawings. No ambitious conservatorium scheme is to be launched. The scheme will grow as the needs of the Dominion demand,. with the collaboration, it is hoped, -of the HMducation Department, the University and cultural organisations. It is expected tenders will be called for the new building toward the end of _ the year. Asked by the "Record"? if he would make a statement,.
