WHAK ammonia and water will remove mud marks from children’s socks, and eucalyptus oil will remove tar and grease stains. Paint stains €an be removed by rubbing with turYentine and then with benzine. Grass
stains should be rubbed with methylared spirits before wetting. New socks with coloured tops should be soaked in salt and water before washing. Streaky socks should be soaked for an hour in warm water containing borax before Deing washed. Soaking in warm water containing bicarbonate of soda will soften them when they are hard. To keep socks soft add a little ainmonia to the water for white socks and a little
glycerine for coloured ones. Woollen socks should be washed and rinsed in luke-warm water containing soap flakes; use only a thin layer. Press out the water with sn old towel, pull into shape, and iron when nearly dry With a warm iron. Silk socks should be rinsed in cold water conta ining a little methylated spirits. For white socks add au little blue to the lass rinsing water,
