Five Years Of Broadcasting

WO interesting QSL's which I bave received lately are from XZ2DY and XZ2EZ, the only "hams" in Burma, Both these stations operate on the 20metre phone band, XZ2DY is owned and operated by F, J. Mustill, of Minto Lodge, Maymyo, while XZ2EZ is owned by Khin Maung Bo, of 82 Inya Road, Rangoon (the latter was formerly VU2ZEZ). Both stations appreciate reports and QSL promptly if return postage is enclosed. My latest QSI’s are VKG6WS, W2XE (25.86 m.), LAIF (Norway), FSXN (France), DJE, DJQ and XZ2EZ. LAIF states that he would like more reports from New Zealand, Lis QRI is 21 m., and he bay un input of 50 wutts. The transmitter is an MOPA and the receiver a four-valve superhet. The uerial is a Zepp. His QRA is: O. Bingen, Sandefjord, Norway. He has a very nice QSL with a photograph of Sandefjord, on the back. FSXN alsc wants more reports from New Zealand. teports are out to VPIBA (British Honduras), VLR, WINK, J2LUL, and JTCB. I also received a booklet from the Berlin stations stating that they celebrated their fifth anniversary in April. They held special festival programunes from April 1 to10. The following facts may interest readers: In 1938, when their first directional transmitter was installed, their maximum daily number of broadcast hours was 1.45. The number of letters ~received from listeners during 193838 was 8000, 1934: Daily pumber of hours on air. 21.15; number of letters, 9806. 1935: Daily number of hours on air, 20.45: number of letters, 24,577.

1936: Daily number of bours on ai’, 48.35: number of letters, 438.446, 19387: Daily number of hours on air, 47; number of letters; 45,252, The power of the German shortwave stations was increased from 4 k.w, to

40 kw. on August 1, 1936,-551A. (Frankton), It Cost 600,000 Dollars, HE following stations will not verify reports: HRX4, WND, HCZET, WOO, WOB, WSXK, KBB, KWX, KWY, KEJ, W1IXK, KDL, KAZ, WOF, KIO, KWY, WEA, and broadcast band stations KFRC (610 k.c.), XERA (810 ke), XBAW (960 k.c.), KGDE (1200 ke), KMED (1410 ke). Return postage is not necessary, The Official opening of the new station and studios of KYW was scbeduled for May 16. This huge building cost 600,000 dollars.-103T, (Stratford). The Correct Address. HERE seems to be sume doubt about the correct address of FI8AC, 80 perhaps the following will help: I reported him on January 31, and received his QSL on May 11, and on his QSL he stated that Le Was very glad to get the report and asked for more, Enclosed was a photograph of himself and 50 used Indo-China stamps, so he really must have appreciated my report! His power is 50 watts, and his QRA is: R. Lebon, P.O. Box 138, Hanoi, Indo China. Recent veries are FISAC, XZ2DY, WOVGX, WSQUQ, VK4AW, G5RY, KAIBH, ZBW3, VK6YZ,. This is the first time | have written to "Around and Behind the Dials," and I hope these notes: continue as I find them yery helpful-270M.C. (Chrisiehurch).
