(Kerepeehi) : Your difficulty with the multi-condenser blocks isa yery awkward one to solve. Ifa circuit diagram of the receiver can be cbtained then the wiring can be traced gut and the value of each condenser then read from the circuit diagram. Some of the service manuals have diagrams of all the models of the make you hare, so that if you can borrow one of these manuals the values can be obtained. Otherwise a certain amount of guesswork will have to he done, Draw out the circuit by tracing each wire in the receiver and then consider what values would be appropriate in each opposition. Why not allow a good serviceman to do the job and be certain that it is well done?

Pe "ROXS" (Christehurch) : The resistor you mention, as number four, is 1eally number two! This should not become hot at all, unless there is 4 short somewhere else in the receiver making the B current much larger than it should be. Does the resistance get hot with the valve pulled out of the socket? If not there is a possibility that the valve is faulty or that it is not receiving its correct bias in the

second section. The condenser four, if faulty, could not affect the resistance two, except to short it out of circuit. Check the insulation of the arm of the potentiometer to chassis as, if a metal panel is used, this must be insulated from the panel or chassis, Also check condenser five-the 0.5 mfd. from arm to chassis. ad BB." (Onehunga): We have no de ° seriptions or particulars concerning a shortwave converter such a8 you ask about but, in the "Radio Constructors’ Guide" for 1936, we published descriptions of converters which you could adapt for the lower wavelength by altering the coils. Copies of this publication can be had from this office at 2/6 posted. "Tete" (Wakefield); The 15 ma, passing through the windings of the transformer which you are building, will not be too high for that size of core-at least if a modern steel is being used. In the case of the 40 ma for the push-pull operation, the two winding halves oppose each other as to magnetising turns so that the core will have little, if any, magnetisation. A.: An oscillator coil designed for operation on 250 volts usually has sufficient latitude for operation at lower voltages, and most will work satisfactorily at 180 volts. Should the oscillation cease on any part of the band, then add a turn or two to the reaction winding, but keep it at the end furthest from the grid.
