REPLY TO "SCHERZO"
AFTER having read Scherzo’s criticism of the broadcast of the Royal Christchurch Musical society’s concert given last week, I feel I cannot let it pass without giving you a little advice, which may not be very welcome, but apart from being secretary, I am.also a trained singer (pupil:of Louis Prout, London, and Tralford Foster, Melbourne), and I consider that, to criticise correctly, it is necessary to. know fully the conditions under which a performance is being given. In the first place if you are not a resident of Christchurch, did you know that the rain was coming down in torrents, and the noise on the roof was most distracting, quite possibly too if affected the sound waves? Secondly, the item given was "King Estmere" not Estmare. As. this mistake occurred twice, it evidently was not a printer’s error. Then again why did you not mention the wonderful instrumental trio we listened to, «and which was accorded a great reception? Perhaps it was beyond your powers of
appreciation.-
