Nearly A Civil Servant

"THE National Irish Festival of 1903 has the honour of finding John McCormack. The great tenor had hopes of entering the Civil Service, and never thought of music as a profession, until he won a gold medal in a tenor-singing competition at the festival. During the same year he made his (debut as a public singer in Dublin, and obtained a post there in the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Now he is spoken of as a possible candidate for the Presidency of Eire, and if he attains that high office he will control the service he nearly entered. He should make a good President. His voice will be heard from 2YA Tuesday, April 19.
