"THU schedules of the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s shortwave stations are :- ZRH, Roberts Heights, near Pretoria: 04.45 to 12.80 G.M.8. on 31.5 metres (0.523 m.c.); 15.00 to 21.00 G.M.8., week days only, and till 21.45 G.M-T. on Saturdays, on 49.94 metres (6.007 m.c.). ZRK, Klipheuval, near Cape Town: 04.45 to 05.45 G.M.T. daily except Sundays on 31.23 metres. ZRJ, Maraisburg, near Johannesburg: 0445 to 05.45 G.M.T. week days on 49.2 metres. Power 200 watts. ZRD, Durban: 04.45 to 05.45 G.M.T. week days, and 08.30 to 12.80 G.M.T. on Saturdays, on 48.8 metres. 201M.C, (Christchurch): The callsign "CB89-CB1170" belongs to "Radio Sool" on 25 metres. A few months ago this station puzzled several dxers, including myself. I have reported only one station in Chile-‘Radio Sool’and the card I received had the above call on itt: The card wag written in Spanish as follows:-‘Hmisora, Otto Becker, Onda Larga y Corta de 25 metros. Santiago de Chile, Ahumada 113-Casilla 706-Telefono 86780; The other calls you mention belong to CB615 (CEB or CB61S) on 24.88m. (12.3

Identification Wanted Station on 25 metre band (11.68m.c. approx.) heard between 3.27 p.m. and 3.57 p.m. N.Z.D.S.T. on March 1, English recordings were played at times, two being "I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles." and "I’ve Seen Diamonds .in Amsterdam." All announcements were made in Spanish. There was no in-

terval signal. The station closed down at 8.57 p.m. with a band march.-524W

Station on 31 metre band (9.85m.c approx) heard at 5.1 p.m. on Sunday, February 27. All announcements were made in Spanish. At 5.14 p.m. a cock crowed, and at 5.15 p.m, bugles were sounded. At 5.23 p.m. the call was announced and sounded like "Say Hmmay -and Say O Bay Kay" which would be COBK relaying CM-, if I got it cor-

Japanese Amateurs Heard. HAVE received a card from the BBC, and other cards to hand are from W2XAD, PCJ, W1XK, W2XE. The Japanese amateurs are coming in

well at present, J2FI ("The Cherry Blossom Station’) and JZNEF being the best. I have been trying to log a few American broadcast band stations lately, but the only one I have heard is KGU, Honolulu, which comes in at

Q2, R3.-109T.

Questions And Answers PUZZLED (Porirua); These cutting off and on troubles are very annoying, In your case the fact that a moyement of the tuning condenser brings in the stations after they have cut out, points to a bad connection to the tuning condenser or to the mixer socket. Examine the spring contact strip on the oscillatur tuning section and make sure that it is clean and rubbing closely against the shaft hub.

Putting a little vaseline on the rubbing surfaces helps greatly to get a good contact. Look tu the connections at the socket and also make sure that there are no shorts to the chassis in any of the Wires or components cour ing from here as this might cause tie heating of the power transformer. The only way to check this heating is to measure the total current taken by the valves and compare with the rating of _ the transformer.
