Dr. Sargent and a Dear Old . Lady "THOSE who ‘have watched and. admired thé graceful movements of Dr. Malcolm Sargent as he conducts an orchestra, will appreciate the following story, told.by the famous. conductor to some Auckland friends last week during his short stay in the Queen city. "After one of my concerts in Wellington," he said, ‘‘a dear old lady: came-up to me and said how much she enjoyed the performance. -‘But tell me doctor,’ she . said to me, ‘where did you learn your gestures >" ‘Somewhat’ _nonplussed, J answered that they came io me as | endeavoured to interpret the music," Dr, Sargent told her. "Oh, I thought they were beautiful,"". replied the D.O.L., "and _what impressed me particularly about them was the extraordinary way they fitted in with the rhythm: of the orchestra."
